Cold damp air feels colder than the thermometer says, and it settles into single-glazed weatherboard homes near the bays until the windows run with condensation.

Older weatherboard homes versus new Albany townhouses
These are two very different jobs. An older single-glazed weatherboard place near Milford or Devonport loses heat through the windows and walls, so it usually needs a bit more grunt from the unit and careful placement to warm the rooms you actually live in. High-wall heads in the main living areas do the job for most of these homes.
The new open-plan townhouses and apartments in Albany are tighter and better insulated, but the open layouts and multiple bedrooms make placement the puzzle. A single head often can't reach a whole townhouse, so a lot of these homes suit multi split heat pump systems running several rooms off one outdoor unit, or in a genuinely open-plan design, ducted heat pumps for open-plan homes that heat evenly without a head on every wall. What getting the sizing right means
The single biggest mistake we see is a unit that's the wrong size for the room. Too small and it runs flat out on a cold damp morning and never quite gets there. Too big and it short-cycles, costs more to run and doesn't dry the air properly.
