Servicing and repairs

Heat pump servicing Auckland homeowners can count on

If we fitted your heat pump, we'll keep it running clean and quiet through Auckland's damp winters. New to us and after a fresh install? We'll sort a quote for that too.

For our own install customers, or anyone wanting a new heat pump fitted.

No obligation. We'll get back to you as soon as we can, usually before the end of the same day.

A heat pump service means we clean the filters and coils, check the gas and drainage, and look over the wiring and outdoor unit. In Auckland's humid, salt-laden air we recommend it once a year to keep heating strong, bills sensible and mould at bay.

What Auckland's salt air does to an outdoor unit

Out in Devonport, Milford and Beach Haven, your outdoor unit copes with sea spray all year. Salt settles on the fins and casing and slowly eats into them, so the unit works harder and can start to rattle or rust well before its time. A yearly look-over catches that corrosion while it's still just surface grime, not a repair bill.

It also pays to think about corrosion when you first choose a unit. Some coated coils and casings handle coastal air far better than others, which is one reason we're happy to fit Mitsubishi Electric heat pumps near the water. If you're weighing up your options, the different types of heat pump vary a lot in how they hold up outdoors.

We service the heat pumps we installed

Here's the straight version: we service and repair only the heat pumps we've installed ourselves. We don't take on other companies' installs, because we know how ours were sized, wired and mounted, and we can stand behind that work.

If someone else fitted yours and it's never quite heated the place, the honest fix is often a proper new install rather than us patching a job we didn't do. We're happy to quote that. Have a look at how we approach heat pump installation and what a job typically runs at on our heat pump installation cost page, then talk to our Auckland team about your place.

Keeping filters clean between visits

In an older single-glazed villa or bungalow, your heat pump works hard to pull moisture out of the air, and the filters clog faster because of it. You can pop the front open, slide the filters out and rinse them under the tap every few weeks over winter. It's a five-minute job that keeps airflow up and stops that musty smell.

If you've got a multi-head setup, there's a filter behind every indoor unit to keep an eye on. That's true whether you're running multi split heat pumps across a few rooms or ducted heat pumps Auckland homes hide in the ceiling. We handle the deeper clean, the coils and the drainage on our annual visit.

When it's a repair, not just a service

Some things you'll notice yourself: weak airflow, water dripping from the indoor unit, ice on the outdoor coil, odd clicking or a burnt smell when it kicks in. Those usually mean something needs fixing rather than a routine clean.

For our own customers, call us with what it's doing and we'll come and look. Sorting a fault early is nearly always cheaper than leaving it to limp through the coldest weeks and pack in completely.

Heat pump servicing questions, answered

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Once a year is the sweet spot for most Auckland homes. If you're right on the coast or run your unit hard through winter, a yearly clean keeps airflow strong and catches salt corrosion early. Rinsing the filters yourself every few weeks between services helps a lot too.

Why is regular heat pump servicing important in a damp climate?

Auckland's high humidity and long damp winters give mould and gunk the perfect conditions to build up inside a heat pump. Clogged filters and coils make the unit work harder, cost more to run and blow that damp, musty smell around the house. Regular servicing keeps it drying the air properly instead of spreading spores.

What does a heat pump service include?

We clean the filters and indoor coil, check refrigerant levels and pressures, clear the drain so it isn't leaking, and go over the electrical connections. Outside, we clean the coil and check for salt corrosion and any loose or worn parts. Then we run it to make sure it's heating and cooling as it should.

Do you service heat pumps you didn't install?

No. We service and repair only the heat pumps we installed ourselves, because we know exactly how they were set up and can stand behind them. If another company fitted yours and it's not performing, we're happy to quote a new install rather than take over someone else's work.
